Private Transfer to the Montmartre

Montmartre rises above Paris — and not every taxi knows how to climb it. The Butte is a maze of steep cobbled streets, hairpin one-ways, and partially pedestrianised lanes. Our drivers know the right approach for every Montmartre address: Rue Caulaincourt for the lower Butte, Rue Lepic for the slopes, the back roads to the Sacré-Cœur for those staying near the basilica.

Climbing the Butte

"Anyone can drop you at the foot of Montmartre. The point is to get you to the top without you needing to walk."— On Montmartre transfers

Why Montmartre is harder than it appears

Montmartre is the only district in Paris with significant elevation — the Butte rises 130 metres above the city. The streets are steep, narrow, and were never designed for cars. Many are one-way, some have been pedestrianised on weekends, and the upper Butte around Sacré-Cœur is effectively unreachable by vehicle. A driver who doesn't know the district will drop you at the foot of Rue Lepic with three suitcases and a 400-metre climb ahead of you.

The two halves of Montmartre

Lower Montmartre — around Place des Abbesses, Rue Lepic, Avenue Junot — is the residential and most-walkable part. Vehicles can reach most of it. Upper Montmartre — around the Sacré-Cœur and Place du Tertre — is where the climb becomes serious. Hotels like Hôtel Particulier Montmartre, Terrass'' Hotel, and Le Relais Montmartre each require a specific approach route. We know which is which.

Late nights and the Pigalle question

Many Montmartre transfers happen late — flights landing at 23:00, taxis hard to find, the Moulin Rouge area (Pigalle, at the foot of the Butte) crowded and confusing. Our drivers know how to skip Pigalle entirely when needed, approaching the Butte from the quieter Caulaincourt side.

Fixed price for a steep district

Some Paris taxis refuse Montmartre after dark, citing the climb and the narrow streets. Others quote freely but rack up the meter on the climb itself. Our €60 from CDG, €65 from Orly is fixed before you even arrive at the airport. We climb the Butte without complaint.

FAQ

Common questions

Usually 30 to 50 minutes — Montmartre is the closest central district to CDG, sitting in northern Paris (18th arrondissement). The journey is often faster than transfers to the south or west of the city.
In most cases yes. Some streets immediately around the basilica are pedestrianised or too narrow for any vehicle — we'll drop you at the closest accessible point (typically 30–80 metres away) and help carry luggage. Specify your exact hotel when booking and we'll match you with a driver who knows the property.
Upper Montmartre and the residential 18th are entirely safe. The Pigalle area (at the foot of the Butte, around Boulevard de Clichy) has more nightlife and pickpocket activity but is still generally safe — our drivers know how to approach the Butte while avoiding Pigalle if you prefer.
Yes — our drivers handle the luggage from the closest legal stop to your hotel door. For very steep approaches (some Sacré-Cœur addresses) we'll request the front-of-house staff assist with the final stretch.
Lower Montmartre (Abbesses, Lepic) yes — the area is residential and pram-friendly. Upper Montmartre (the climbs to Sacré-Cœur) is steep — strollers are manageable but tiring. For families we recommend hotels around Place des Abbesses or Rue des Martyrs.
Yes — pickups between 22:00 and 06:00 carry a night supplement. The amount is shown at the moment of booking and included in the displayed total.
