The Loire Valley

The garden of France

"The Loire is the river of kings — and the only place in France where you can pass three royal palaces in a single afternoon." — French Ministry of Culture

A UNESCO-listed royal valley

Stretching 280 kilometres along the Loire River, the central Loire Valley between Sully-sur-Loire and Chalonnes-sur-Loire is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage cultural landscape. More than 300 châteaux dot the region — the residue of a 500-year period when French kings preferred the valley's mild climate, gentle hunting forests, and navigable river to the cramped politics of Paris.

Why it's hard to reach by train

This is the practical truth: there is no direct train from Paris to most of the Loire châteaux. You can reach the towns of Tours or Blois by TGV in around 1h30, but from there you face local buses with limited timetables, shuttle services that run only in high season, or expensive local taxis that charge by the hour. Visiting two châteaux in one day by public transport is barely possible. Visiting three is realistic only with a private vehicle.

What our private transfer includes

A door-to-door full-day service. We pick you up at your Paris hotel, your apartment, or directly at CDG/Orly arrivals. Our chauffeur drives you to your chosen châteaux, waits at each site while you visit (no taxi meter running), recommends lunch spots, and brings you back to Paris in the evening. All tolls, parking, fuel and waiting time are included in the fixed price.

Customisable, not packaged

Unlike coach tours, your day is yours. Want to spend three hours at Chambord and skip Chenonceau? Done. Want to add a vineyard tasting in Vouvray, a long lunch at Auberge de Launay, or a stop at Leonardo da Vinci's house at Clos Lucé? We arrange it. You set the rhythm; we handle the logistics.

The Châteaux

Where we take you in the Loire Valley

A curated selection of the most-visited and most-rewarding châteaux on our standard and custom routes.

01

Château de Chambord

2h30 from Paris · 440 rooms · Renaissance

The largest château in the Loire Valley, commissioned by François I and rumoured to bear the touch of Leonardo da Vinci. Its double-helix staircase is among the most famous in Europe.

02

Château de Chenonceau

2h30 from Paris · Spans the Cher River

The "Ladies' Château" — its iconic gallery stretches across the river and has been shaped by six remarkable women, from Diane de Poitiers to Catherine de Medici.

03

Château d'Amboise

2h15 from Paris · Royal residence

Childhood home of multiple French kings and final resting place of Leonardo da Vinci. The terraces overlooking the Loire are some of the finest in the region.

04

Clos Lucé

2h15 from Paris · Da Vinci's last home

The manor where Leonardo da Vinci lived his final three years as guest of François I. His tomb is here; the gardens house working models of his inventions.

05

Château de Cheverny

2h15 from Paris · Inspiration for Marlinspike

Hergé's model for Captain Haddock's family seat in Tintin. Still privately owned, with one of the most intact 17th-century interiors in France.

06

Château de Villandry

2h45 from Paris · Renaissance gardens

Most famous for its meticulously designed Renaissance gardens — geometrical kitchen garden, water garden, ornamental garden — restored by Joachim Carvallo in 1906.

07

Château d'Azay-le-Rideau

2h45 from Paris · Island setting

A jewel of early French Renaissance, built on an island in the Indre river. Honoré de Balzac called it "a faceted diamond set in the Indre."

08

Vouvray Vineyards

2h30 from Paris · Loire wine country

Chenin Blanc heartland — sparkling, dry and sweet wines from chalky tuffeau caves. We can include a tasting stop at one of the appellation's leading estates.

What our Loire passengers say

"We visited Chambord, Chenonceau and Amboise in a single day — something we'd been told was impossible by train. The driver was patient at every stop and recommended a lunch place in Bracieux that we still talk about."

"My parents are in their seventies and a coach tour was out of the question. The private V-Class was perfect — air-conditioned, comfortable seats, driver who understood the pace they needed. They saw three châteaux and still had energy for dinner in Paris."

FAQ

Common questions

From central Paris, it takes around 2 hours 15 minutes to reach Amboise, 2 hours 30 minutes to Chambord and Chenonceau, and 2 hours 45 minutes to Villandry or Azay-le-Rideau. From CDG Airport, allow 15–20 minutes extra. From Orly, the journey times are very similar to central Paris since Orly is south of the city.
Yes — three is the standard recommendation for a comfortable one-day trip. Most travellers choose Chambord, Chenonceau and Amboise (the "Royal Triangle"). Four is possible if you keep visits brief; five becomes tight unless you start very early.
No — château entry tickets are paid separately at each site (typically €12–€18 per château). We strongly recommend pre-booking online during peak season (June–September) to skip the ticket queues. Your chauffeur can advise on which châteaux benefit most from advance booking.
Yes. We partner with licensed English-speaking guides for in-château tours. This is an additional service (typically €250–€400 for a half-day guide), arranged on request. Most châteaux also offer excellent audio guides included with admission.
We can suggest restaurants ranging from casual bistros to Michelin-starred establishments, and we're happy to make reservations on your behalf when you book. Popular choices include Auberge de Launay near Amboise, Le Saint-Michel in Chambord, and L'Aubinière in Saint-Ouen-les-Vignes.
Trains reach the regional towns of Tours, Blois and Orléans (1h–1h30 by TGV from Paris Montparnasse or Austerlitz). However, the châteaux themselves are spread across rural countryside with very limited bus connections from these stations. To visit two or more châteaux in a day, a private vehicle is effectively essential.
May–June and September–October offer the best combination of mild weather, full château opening, and manageable crowds. July and August are the busiest months — book early. The châteaux are also magical in late winter when crowds disappear and you can wander Chambord almost alone.
Yes. A popular option is to fly into CDG, head straight to the Loire for a day of châteaux, and continue to your Paris hotel that evening. Or vice versa: full day in the Loire followed by drop-off at the airport for an evening flight. Both options are easily arranged at the standard rate.

The châteaux are waiting.
