A day in Champagne

"There is no other wine region where the great houses are this concentrated, this welcoming, and this drinkable."— On Champagne tours

Why Champagne is a day-trip

The Champagne region centres on two cities just 30 kilometres apart - Reims (the historic capital, with the cathedral where French kings were crowned) and Epernay (the wine capital, with Avenue de Champagne). All the major houses are based in one or the other: Moet & Chandon and Pol Roger in Epernay; Veuve Clicquot, Taittinger, Pommery, Mumm, Ruinart in Reims. Two cellar visits, lunch in between, and you've seen the best of Champagne - all within reasonable distance of Paris.

Why the train doesn't work well for cellar tours

The TGV from Paris to Reims takes 45 minutes - fast, but it deposits you at Reims TGV station, 5 km outside the city centre. From there, you need a taxi to each cellar, taxis between cellars, and a taxi back to the station. The cost adds up; the timing rarely works; visiting Epernay (a separate town) is impractical without your own driver.

Why a private day-trip works

Door-to-cellar service. Pickup at your Paris hotel at 09:00, arrive at the first cellar by 10:30, lunch in Reims or Epernay, second cellar in the afternoon, back to Paris by 19:00. The chauffeur drives between all stops - no taxis, no logistics. Your role is to drink and enjoy. The driver doesn't drink.

Booking the cellar visits

Each champagne house requires advance booking for tours and tastings. Moet & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, and Taittinger book up weeks ahead in peak season (May-October). We strongly recommend reserving your cellar visits before booking the transfer - and we're happy to assist with the booking process or recommend houses based on your preferences.

Common questions

Around 100 minutes from central Paris via the A4. The route is direct and the road is quiet outside rush hour - driving time is reliable.

Yes, strongly. The major houses (Moet, Veuve Clicquot, Taittinger) book up weeks ahead in peak season (May-October). Smaller houses often have more availability.
Yes - the standard Reims & Epernay itinerary includes the drive between the two (about 30 minutes). The pricing covers all internal driving for the day.
Tell us your preferred houses when booking and we'll structure the day around them. We have direct experience with all major Champagne houses and many smaller producers.
Not in the standard rate - lunch is at the restaurant of your choice and paid separately. We're happy to make reservations (the Tasting Lunch Package includes a Michelin-starred booking).
