The District

The most elegant Left Bank

"Saint-Germain is the district where Parisians who can afford the Right Bank choose to live anyway."— On the appeal of the 6th

Why the 6th feels different

The 6th is the smallest arrondissement of central Paris but contains an unusual density of bookshops, art galleries, antique dealers, and family-owned bistros. The student population (the Sorbonne is at its eastern edge) gives the streets a young energy by day; in the evening it becomes one of the most sophisticated dinner districts in the city. The architecture is overwhelmingly 18th-century stone - uniform but with a thousand individual character touches.

Literary geography

Cafe de Flore and Les Deux Magots - the two literary cafes on Boulevard Saint-Germain - were the working tables of Sartre, de Beauvoir, Camus, Hemingway, Picasso, and a hundred others. They are still operating today, still serving the same chocolat chaud, still expensive. Both have outdoor terraces - particularly the Flore in the morning sun - that are themselves a piece of Paris.

Boutique hotels in 17th-century courtyards

L'Hotel (where Oscar Wilde died), Hotel d'Aubusson (in a former 17th-century mansion), Esprit Saint Germain, Relais Christine, Hotel Lutetia (the only Left Bank palace hotel) - each with its own arrivals protocol. Many sit behind 17th-century porte cocheres that require knowing the door code to enter the courtyard. We know the addresses.

Walkable to everything

From Saint-Germain you can walk to Notre-Dame (10 minutes), the Louvre (15 minutes), the Eiffel Tower (25 minutes), or the Latin Quarter (5 minutes). For a single-base Paris stay, the 6th is the most strategically positioned arrondissement in the city - and our transfer drops you in the centre of all of it.

FAQ

Common questions

Normally 35 to 55 minutes. The 6th is on the Left Bank, so the CDG approach takes you across the Seine - usually via the Pont de la Concorde or the Pont Royal. During peak hours allow 60-75 minutes.
Yes. The 6th's boutique hotels are well known to our drivers - L'Hotel on Rue des Beaux-Arts, Hotel d'Aubusson on Rue Dauphine, Relais Christine on Rue Christine. Many sit behind porte cocheres or in 17th-century courtyards; we know the specific approaches.
They are adjacent - the 5th and 6th arrondissements meet at the Boulevard Saint-Michel. From most 6th hotels you can walk to the Sorbonne, the Pantheon, or Notre-Dame in 5-10 minutes.
The most atmospheric is around Rue de Buci and Rue de Seine - narrow streets, market activity, cafe terraces. For quieter elegance: Rue Jacob and Rue Bonaparte. For more contemporary: around Saint-Sulpice.
Mostly yes - the streets are narrow but paved (not cobbled like the Marais). Drop-off is usually within 20-30 metres of any hotel door. Some boutique addresses require carrying luggage across a courtyard, but staff usually assist.
Yes - it is one of the highest-priced arrondissements for hotels and dining. Our transfer rate (60 EUR from CDG, 55 EUR from Orly) does not change with postcode; you pay the same as for any other central Paris district.
